Citizenship/Scholarship Banquet was held on April 14,2011 at the Bloomington
Country Club. This year we honored 19 high school
seniors from the 19 public and private high schools in the McLean and Woodford
counties. The 2011 $1,000 scholarship
recipient was Blaise McNeese, from the Tri-Valley High School, Downs, IL..
Blaise will be attending the United States Air Force Academy this fall with a
major of Mechanical Engineering.
Welcome to the chapter's newest member, Dr. Virgil Short. New

officer was Secretary Emeritus Harry Hoit (back to camera)To the GJB SAR officers and committees for 2011, thank you for
your willingness to serve this chapter and the SAR. Thank you
also to the 17 members and guests that braved the winter weather and to
Jay Cummins for the program about his Revolutionary War ancestor
Captain Henry Garrett and the families that followed. Welcome to
our newest member, Dr. Virgil Short. At our meeting we were able
to present Dr. Short with the NSSAR Membership Certificate.

On October 21, 2010, the General Joseph Bartholomew SAR Chapter
celebrated their 35th anniversary with a dinner program at the Lakeside
Country Club in Bloomington, Illinois. There were 52
attending, including two of the original charter
members, ILSSAR President Franz Herder and ILSSAR Sr. Vice
President Bruce Talbot, guests from three other ILSSAR
Chapters, guests from the Letitia Green Stevenson
NSDAR Chapter. Dr. Michael Thurwanger, Director of the Ronald Reagan,
Leadership Program at Eureka College in Eureka, IL. was our keynote
speaker. Good citizenship certificates were presented to charter
members J. Ronald Bogart and L. Lance McCormick and Carole and Robert
H. Starrett, for their leadership and
efforts regarding the GJB SAR 35th Anniversary Book containing
Revolutionary stories from 21 of our members ancestors.

During
the annual joint meeting on September 9, 2010 with the Letitia Green
Stevenson DAR chapter, the chapter recognized Deputy Brian Eggleston of
the McLean County Sheriff's Office for outstanding achievement and
dedication to the maintenance of law and order; and to Captain Brad
McCollum of the Bloomington Fire Department for his contributions to
protect human life and property by preventing injuries or casualties
due to fire.

The chapter held its annual Flag Day meeting on June 11th, 2009.
Steve Peterson of rural Hudson was presented the Chapter Flag
Award. He has prominently displayed the Flag in his front
yard
for 20+ years.
